Hedman Slip Fit Y pipe...
Ok well welding is the last option, how do i get this damn thing to stop leaking?
When i was at the exhaust shop it wasnt leaking or not noticeable enough so it wasnt welded. Well driving home 62 miles it started to leak bad especally once it the car gets hot. Sounds terrible. Could be the backfiring not helping either. Well when i was up there he said just to get a 2" butt-joint clamp. So i did and it wasnt big enough couldnt get the bolts through the 2 ends to tighten it up. Completely mangled this $14 clamp and it didnt work. Ok, checked hedmans site, the y pipe is definently 2.5". Run up to a speed shop...20 miles get a 2.5" butt joint $15. Tightened that thing as far down as it would go, and it leaked. It looks too big. Measured the pipe...its 2.5" pipe. What gives? I dont even know if i can return this clamp cause i scratched this one all up to. I dont want to keep buying these $10-15 clamps to get them to work. So does it sound like a 2 1/4" clamp will work? They will have to order one monday if i decide to get one. I also tried a regular 2 1/4" U-bolt clamp and it leaks no good.
Im gonna give the shop a call and talk to the guy there and see what he thinks. Aggrivating for damn sure.

weld it. it will benefit you in more ways then you think. water gets in the slot where is slips on and rusts it out. plus youll get a definate seal and its cheap to do.

No one around here is gonna touch my exhaust the way it is, ive been thinking about it though, that sounds like what im gonna have to do. Wish i could get access to a welder, tact it, take it off weld it and stick it back in there. One of these days ill invest in a welder...

You can get a 110VAC flux core wire welder from Harbor Freight for $110-$130 right now. I've welded up my mufflers 3 times with one like they're selling, about to be 4x today.

actually since you have it clamped in place it shouldnt move so just take it off carefully then weld it thats what i did.

Well i did get a 2 1/4" butt joint clamp on it today and it doesnt leak nearly as bad, and you cant hear it so that makes me a lot more happy. I will most likely be taking up to the shop next weekend and have him fix it, got off the phone with him today and he said hed take care of it. Im just happy i dont have all the valve clatter noises anymore...id still like all the fumes to exit out 1 place though...
I really need to get down to a harbor freight and pick up some tools...thanks for the tips guys.

What about Exhaust Band clamps?? I use them on my exhause and if it's a slip fit connection it should work good. I use them on my whole exhaust system where the pipes slip on. Just a thought
I read your post again. Did you use these? I have found that you have to go one size smaller sometimes on the these clamps. Doesn't make sense but you can give it a try.
