A.I.R. with open element filter, question inside

Last year I swapped in an open element filter, and now it's time to finish the upgrade on my exhaust (new headers, y-pipe and cat). Should I get a system that has AIR since my car originally came equipped with AIR, or can I bypass this somehow (as it's not really being used correctly since the driver side manifold is open now.

as far as headers go, I see so many mixed reviews for shorties (my car is too low for long tubes), unless something has come up since I last read through all the header threads, is there anything I need to watch out for?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Does your state require them?

I would keep air, it is better for the environment and less work since you already have it, air is injected in your cat converter to reduce exhaust gasses by allowing them to be more effectively burned. The thermac valve you removed by installing the open element has nothing to do with the air sistem, it only lets warm air in when the engine is cold to get it warmed up faster.

Ceramic coated would be best, it keeps the engine compartement cooler.
Mac-performance and Hoocker seem to be the performance and install friendlyest.
