Y-Pipe not going back on??? grrr
Okay, I just fixed an oil leak where everything went wrong. Now, The Y-Pipe is not going on. I replaced the oil pan, but I replaced it with the same oil pan. So it is not going on. Does anyone think that raising the motor about an 1 or 2 inches help?
Thanks
Thanks

Okay, I'm going to say this, take it for what you want. I had the same trouble with my stock y-pipe.
After I unbolted my y pipe, it relaxed and warped. I spent three hours trying to pull it into postion and bolt it back up by myself.
What I did then worked.
I got a longer then needed bolt cut the head off it. Threaded it into the head at the number one cyl postion. Attached the manifold, drivers side, to the Y-pipe. and pulled the whole y pipe and manifold over and pushed it up onto the bolt. Then started the other bolts and removed the one I started with.
It's an old shade tree trick, I know. I would of rather put a new set of headers straight exhaust.
But, it went togther fine, no leaks.
I hate y pipes....with good reason....they dont hold there shape....

oops, I forgot the main part. When I did get it on, I started threading it, and it hit and oil pan and I kept cranking and it bent it. It isn't major though, I just needed about about 1/4 of an inch, but I took it off because I bent the new oil pan. When isn't it fitting?

Though I don't advise doing this, take it for what
its worth..It probally wont help you..but, For I too
had a similar incident with a Hedman kit Y-pipe and
was hitting the oil pan.
I heated the pipe up with a oxy-acetylene torch
(can use anything that generates enough heat)
and used a flat face metal working hammer and a
thick piece of steel to neatly shape a "indent" in
the Y-pipe where clearence was needed.
General Idea:

Fortunately, I did not have to manuever around
any bends in the pipe, for my clearence issue was
at a fairly straight point on the Y-pipe.
I had the "indent" sunk in roughly a 1/2inch or so,
which allowed room for the Y-pipe to bolt up and
not cook/bake my oil to the bottom of the pan.
Disregard if your issue is elsewhere, It probally
is since you still have the stock exhaust.
All else fails.. Exhaust shop

wow, I have the exact same problem. With it hitting the oil pan, it shouldn't be that bad of a problem, it wont mess things up too much will it?

Yea.. I thought the same thing, until I saw how
bad it was really hugging the oil pan.
Since you were able to get it on, your problem was
not as bad as mine was.. I couldnt even bolt mine up.
Use best judgement, Best case scenario is to get
that hot pipe away from your oil.
My biggest problem was vibration.. the whole
Y-pipe sucked onto the body pan, after 55-60mph,
..the vibration got way out of hand.
Hence, why I had to take some heat to the Y-pipe
Id rectify it as soon as possible, I just
happen to fix mine for free.. Hope that helps
