Soo My 1990 RS Camaro has a bad cat... I am sick of the smell and dont have the money to buy a new one. I just got it smogged and it passed, would there be a problem for the time being if I just cut the cat off and replaced a piece of straight pipe connecting the 2 ends? (clamping them of course.) thanks in advance
p.s Im thinking about doing this tonight hahaha srry for the spur of the moment post

Depends upon where you cut. Could make getting one back in when you need to difficult and expensive.
The car might run a little funny without the cat, but it most likely won't hurt anything.

It may also depend on where you live. A friend that lives in Riverside County, Ca. has told me about CHP roving smog test stations who look for street racer types in his area. The Highway Patrol pulls you over, does a visual and hooks you up (same as a regular smog test). If you don`t pass because you removed smog parts, your ride is impounded and you may or may not get it back. Check your local laws.

Sooo I cut it off... It runs actually better than it did and that surprised me because I have read that the TBI 5.0 runs worse when the muffler/cat is removed. The only problem Ive ran into is that the piece of flex pipe I bought to hold until I buy a cat wasnt long enough (by about 3-4 inches) to connect the two pipes soo I took the flex pipe ran it out under my door so you cant really see it and now Im running straight pipes until I buy a cat.

For the 305 (5.0L) TBI, will Pacesetter Long Tubes fit? Obviously with a new Off-Road Y-Pipe of course.
