QTP cutout
I am setting up the exhaust on my 1992 Formula 350 as follows:
I will be going with a set of 1 3/4 inch shorty headers and eliminating the dual cat set up and using a y pipe eventually leading to a 3 inch no cat intermediate pipe. My question is if I weld in a dump with a QTP electric cut out valve is there any thing to be gained? I was hoping to hear some opinions or perhaps some info from someone who has done this. Thanks for the help.

Re: QTP cutout
Not enough information really. On a stock 350, you will gain a lot of noise, that's about it. Ditto with removing the cats. The headers and a decent cat-back can get about 15 HP or so, but then you run into a wall because the TPI engines are airflow challenged from the intake side to begin with. As the old saying goes, "you're barking up the wrong tree"
However, if you have high-flow heads, a good cam, and a stealth, Mini or Super ram, and a cold air kit, you can probably make measurable power by loosing the cats and running a cut out.
If you want a cut out to turn heads and make a bad boy statement, then that is your choice, but you're putting tennis shoes on an elephant if you haven't made major improvements in airflow into the engine.

Re: QTP cutout
Let me ask you this. Right now I have a SLP Cold Air Kit and the NOS Kit for the TPI. This car has gone 12.32@109. I bought 1 3/4 headers as well as flowmaster cat back kit. Eventually I am going to be installing a Stealth Rammed 383. I need to set up the exhaust now. The car will probably stay this way for a year with the stock TPI. I am thinking it would probably be a good idea to set the exhaust up with the cut out now planning for the larger engine in the future. With a 383, Holley Stealth Ram and a decent cam what do you think the cutout would be worth? If it's nothing serious I'll just go with t a three inch system./ Thanks for your help.
