Hooker 2055 Y-pipe

Just got the 2055s on. What a PITA!!! Any way they collector on the driver side seems to be leaking. I tightened the bolts twice, still sounds like its leaking. I don't want to bend the flange. What do you do? As far as I know it doesn't need a gasket on a ball and socket connection. Does it? Suggestions???

Try loosening both sides and tightening them up slowly and equally. Most likely you're a little off-set. Might have to loosen the header to head bolts as well in order to get the collector ***** to seal - mine didn't line up very well the first time, I assumed it was because of the World heads, but haven't been a problem since (originally installed on the 305 then switch to the 350, a couple of starter replacements).

I'll give it a try. Man I hope I don't have to loosen the header bolts, those pass. sides are a PITA. Thanks for the input.

Re: Hooker 2055 Y-pipe

No, they need no sealer or gaskets. How low your "Y" pipe hangs under the passenger side can cause the ball mounts to not align, especially way over on the driver side.

Work on the Y pipe. A quick way to see the problem is to hit the inside of the Y pipe flares with paint, and put the pipe carefully in place and tighten good. Come back in a few hours and drop the Y, and they will have left witness marks on each other (y flanges and header ball ends) so you will then know exactly where the problem is.

Good luck
