I am in the process of pricing parts for doing the exhaust on my 84' firebird, im looking for advice on headers, pipes, and mufflers. Im also thinking about header knockoffs. If possble, i would like to know brand and model, i know space might be an issue, im leaning towards shortie headers. Im open to any suggestions. Adivice on lenth and best cutoff points, and H or x pipes would be a bonus.

Edelbrocks fit nice I had them on a 84 trans am once and no mod's to get them in place aside from bending the brake lines a bit for clearance .... I would look for a set made for the 5.0 H.O though so you get the 3 inch pipe verses the LG-4's smaller diameter pipe to the cat converter.
Thanks, did you use shorties or long pipes? How big were they 1 3/4, 1 5/8?

hooker 2055's, 1 5/8th primary shorty headers with 3" factory routed y pipe. the choose whatever 3" cat-back you want. hooker, edelbrock, flowmaster, etc.
just make sure everything is 3".

The following will fit your requirements: Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR). IMO, you can't do better than this direct-fit system.

i currently have a 84 TA and the best headers by experience would be the edelbrock shortys. There designed perfect for the car and come with the y pipe (worked great with the stock oil pan but not with 6 qt moroso) i gutted a high flo cat and used a 80 series flowmaster and the sounds great. 2.5 inch is good but with a little work to the motor to use 3 inch will satisfy everyones needs .i dont have exhaust clips but trust me.
thanks alot guys this helps a bunch.

tysonx ..... Mine were 1 5/8th's primaries ...... a little side note though to make edelbrocks passenger side header slip in and bolt up with ease remove your a/c box on the firewall if not you will have a battle getting to the bolts and busted knuckles.
Thanks, im thinkin that ill probly just get rid of my ac box anyway things like that are realy helpfull.
