is my y pipe choking my motor??

After thinking about where I could gain some more umph in my car I thought about my exhaust. When I got the car years ago, it already had edelbrock headers (TES) and since I have dual cats, I took a look under there to look at the dual cat y pipe. both pipes going to the cats look like they are 2.25"! I know that dual 2.25" flow a hair better than a single 3" but would I see any gain at all going from the dual cat piping that is 2.25 all the way to the cats to right after the cats for about a good foot or so?
I plan on using the Edelbrock y pipe for single cats ( 2.5 inlet and 3" outlet)and getting ahold of a universal magnaflow cat(3" in/out) and attatch a 3" pipe in place of the piece of intermediate pipe that the exhaust shop didnt replace with 3" (like they should have!). Or would this all just be a waste of $?

Re: is my y pipe choking my motor??

the 2.25 is not aftermarket....with dual cat headers (at least with edelbrock's tes) you have to reuse the stock y pipe.

Re: is my y pipe choking my motor??

stevo, you missed my question....my question was would a single 2.5 y pipe that turns into a 3" right before the cat with a hi flow 3" cat and 3" catback outflow the dual 2.25 y pipe i have now and would it be worth the time and money to do so...
