Air/Smog Pump problem
Air/Smog Pump problem
So I bought an 86 tpi camaro with a rebuilt motor, aftermarket headers and I went to get it inspected and they failed me because I didn't have a smog/air pump on the car. I'm having trouble finding out what I need to get and where to get it, and also how it installs/works. Also, do I need stock exhaust manifolds to do this set up? How much $ could I be looking at to do this.
Thanks,
Bernice

What headers do you have? If there aren't any little tubes sticking up from the primary tubes coming off the heads, then you probably don't have headers that will pass inspection. There are several available that do, from Hooker, Edelbrock, and Hedman, to name a few. The "emissions legal" headers, to the best of my knowledge, are all "shorty" style, with a y-pipe that follows the stock routing to the catalytic converter in the stock location.

Re: Air/Smog Pump problem
Nobody makes replacements, so you're going to have to search the classifieds and hope you can find someone else who removed theirs.
This is why I tell people not to remove their emissions equipment.

I've got some of the parts available because I'm swapping in a later engine that doesn't need it.
Hopefully the harnessing is still there.
