Exhaust issue

Ive been noticing exhaust smell in my 91 Firebird when I turn on the heater or vent heat and just at start up or sometimes at idle. Its been like this for a while. Ive replaced the cat and all new exhaust from cat back. Ive not check the headers nor the pipe from them to the cat. Anyone ever had something like this happen to them. Thanks

Re: Exhaust issue

Sounds like it could be the weatherstripping that in under the hood, near the cowl.

I used to get it a lot since I had the hood 1/4 cowl blockoff plate removed.

You get air by the windshield wipers when the vents are on, and near the passengers right foot when using heater unless their is a vacuum problem for the air intake door.

Re: Exhaust issue

So by the windshield is where the sripting might be bad or by the passenger side vent door. Do I have to remove the bottom part of the dash to get to this vent door on the passenger side. Ive never had a issue like this so this is new to me. Any other help would be great.

Re: Exhaust issue

Well Ive found out where the leak is coming from. The factory header on the passenger side has 2 bolts broken off. Why is that because some dumb ace before I got it must have wanted to change them or something and broken them off. SO now what the heck should I do. Im not willing into dumping anymore money on this car because I set aside money to restore it back to the factory look and that gone. So you guys think maybe I can weld in the holes or hell ILL trying anything besides taking it to someone to heat up the bolt ends and trying to extract them out some how. Im coming to a point where Im thinking of just selling it. My 68 charger resto is taking another turn and will require some more money and the budget for that car is gone also. So any quick fixes. Would JB weld work. LOLOL
