Re: Exhaust Questions/help

Most people on here recommend 3" exhaust for any v8 car. The stock 2.25 is too restrictive.

Since it looks and sounds like you have kind of an "exhaust shop special" on your car now, buying a full 3" catback from hooker or flowmaster would probably be money you dont want to spend ($300 -$350).

You need to check what the inlet on your flowmaster muffler is. A 3" I pipe might be a little big if your inlet is 2.5". However, exhaust shops have ways of making things fit like welding in gaps and such.

So they want $100 to bend you up a 3" I pipe? Would that be press bent, crush bent, or mandrel bent? Because summit sells dynomax pipes that are 2.5" and 3" for these cars.

IIRC the 2.5" pipe is $100, and the 3" pipe is 2 seperate pieces so it costs more. Here are the links if you are interested:

Press bent exhaust looks like this:

Crush Bend is like that, but has wrinkles in the bends (usually cheap sold at pepboys)

Mandrel Bending is the best type. It has a constant diameter through the bend:

Here is a comparison:
