Headers with least ammount of fab...

I just got an 84 z28, 305/5 speed/q-jet. I just want to know, what headers will go in with the least ammount of fab work? Like, what will bolt to my stock cat/catback? I dont have a welder, or know anyone with one. And is there any "bolt on" header to tailpipe exhaust systems? That come in a kit and dont need any welding or cutting? Thanks, Joe

The following is a direct-fit system (though a bit pricey):

Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

James, do you have the set in notepad and just copy and waste it whenever you see this stuff? Haha.
But yes, I will give another +1 for that setup.

Actually, I do (because the question is asked so often)

Re: Headers with least ammount of fab...

If you hacksaw the cat off in your driveway and then install a set of bolt on headers with a y-pipe, why can't you drive to an exhaust shop and have it all welded back together? I do that and it usually doesn't cost more than 35-50 bucks.

Don't limit yourself with bolt on exhaust because you don't have a welder; I routinely have the exhaust hanging under my car with coat hanger wire on it's way to the exhaust shop to get it welded on!

Oh, and this is also a plug for Dyno Don's headers and y-pipe! I like the SLP parts but since they aren't made, these are the new replacements!

So with the hooker headers, what connects the headers to the y pipe or the cat? or does it come with a y pipe? They are like $800 on summit thats a bit more than i am willing to spend on headers though

2055 are $413~ on Summit and come with a very good Y-Pipe.

As you note in the above pic, a Y is included. The Y is joined to the headers with a ball flange. The cat is a slip fit on both the Y and intermediate pipe.

Providing it's the correct size; however, some are not bolt-ons, but rather slip-fits.

Re: Headers with least ammount of fab...

Wouldnt the flowmaster FLO-17233 be able to substitute for the hooker cat back? Or does the hooker fit better or something?

Costs more and doesn't include tips* (edit)
Other than that, nothing.

Re: Headers with least ammount of fab...

Flowmater's systems include the shiny tips that look awesome - I know because my buddy has them. And they are in the pics on summits site.

Also, flowmasters sound alot better IMO.

To each his own.
That is all a matter of personal preference and can't really be broken down.
I for one hate flowmaster.
