factory Y-pipe

hey everyone, i just have a question.
I pulled the full exhaust system off my car today and the Y-pipe looks so bloody dodgy and roughly made i was wondering if it is a factory one? (I had a 2.5" custom catback installed early 07).

Re: factory Y-pipe

The Y above actually looks like the more desireable Y. In the following pic, the Y on the left is an LG4, the one on the right an L69:

Who said the LG4 exhaust was restrictive! Brandon, glad to see you have a friend now

Re: factory Y-pipe

wow there is a huge difference from LG4 to L69, i just thought the welding where the second pipe joins to the main one looked real crap and didn't think it could be stock but it looks like it is.

Re: factory Y-pipe

I'm not seeing crinkles in the bends, so I dunno. It looks more like a bad shop-made one, that at least didn't crinkle the bends.

Re: factory Y-pipe

If you look at where the cat goes onto it, its a bolt flange and not slip on.....or were some like that? I mean I see in the picture posted that the l69 one has a bolt flange but it looks a little different to me and also I dont see crinkles.

Re: factory Y-pipe

Here are some pictures of the old L69 system I once ran. The flange on Venom's piece may have been modified to accept the cat (the original cat for an HO is a four-bolt as you'll see below) The link provides another side-by-side L69 vs LG4 Y:

The 2-bolt cat had me wondering, too. Looks a little bigger than the LG4 pipe, but smaller than L69.

Wonder if "Australia" has anything to do with it. Probably not, but it is still "curious".

Re: factory Y-pipe

umm just had a look and it seems they cut the old flange off and welded a new on on to take the new cat, the cat that is on there is a 2.5" one and the outlet for the Y-Pipe is 3"

Great. I suggest you never return to that shop. Here's what you needed:

[QUOTE=VenomX-87;3584099](I had a 2.5" custom catback installed early 07).

Your original L69 exhaust from the cat back should have been a 2.75. Apparently, you actually downgraded.

Re: factory Y-pipe

na they are actualy one of the 2 best in Adelaide, the cat is a 2.5" high flow.
They asked me if i wanted 3" or 2.5".
I said i wanted 2.5" catback coz i thought 3" was a bit overboard for a stock 305, I noticed a huge improvement over the stock exhaust with this new one both in performance and sound.

besides this exhaust is going to be for sale soon because once i get the ZZ383 installed im getting a complete dual 2.5" system made for the car as well as extractors.

It's all starting to make sense now. HO 'Bird, cut-off cat inlet flange, no quantitative dimensional reference - stock HO y-pipe.
