Full Exhaust

Hey guys wassup. Im thinking about getting a full exhaust for my car. I was just wondering what you guys recommend. I've looked at a few, though I was was just wondering what you guys have and what you recommend getting or looking into. My car is a 89 Formula V8 5.7 TPI. Im pretty sure it currently has the stock exhaust.

hooker 2055's, with a hooker catback as well.

just installed both on my buddies LG4 about a month ago or so. made a huge difference.

Re: Full Exhaust

Hooker 2055's are arguably the best shorty headers you can buy for these cars. As for the catback, go with a three inch and from there, pick what you want based on sound. Look some up on youtube or LS1sounds.com I would recomend getting something made of stainless steel too. I have an SLP 2OTL and I love it.

Hooker 2460's are what I got on my car and I really like em. Other then that maybe get some long tube headers if you got the cash or find a good deal.

Re: Full Exhaust

Check out the stickies at the top of the exhaust forum for starters, then search for existing threads on exhaust opinions using the nifty little search tool on the top right of where the list of threads start... I haven't been on this site for too long but have quickly noticed that if you ask for help in the way that you have you will get a bunch of barely if at all useful replies with half the people slamming each others opinions.

Re: Full Exhaust

2055s are the best shorty header. Hooker 2210s are the long tubes and much more of a hassle to install. You would need to get a y pipe custom made. If you plan on running a high horsepower engine you might as well get the 2210s. If you plan on doing minor mods, the 2055s are the way to go. They come with the y pipe. Just bolt everything up.

I ran the Hooker catback and I liked it. Everyone seems to have a Flowmaster, but the Hooker sounds different. Now I have a Magnaflow catback and it's AWESOME. It's by far superior in sound, quality (stainless steel) and from what I've heard the flow numbers are great, but I have no facts to back that up.

Re: Full Exhaust

if you want a foot of ground clearance and not have to worry about replacing your y pipe every other week go with the 2055's.

Re: Full Exhaust

people have issues with ground clearence on the long tubes. where the collectors exit, you have to fab up a y-pipe that goes under the tranny x-member and the pipes will have to be close to the ground.

Ah, got you. I know my cutout bangs on speed bumps, doesent seem to damage it any though. I need to tighten my suspension and maybe get my exhaust a little tighter to the body so it doesent do that.

The following is a direct-fit, three-inch system: Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR). No welding, cutting, modding or swearing.

Re: Full Exhaust

Here's a video clip of my Magnaflow and Hooker shortys. Sorry about the poor sound quality, we filmed it with a Sony digital point and shoot. It's a relatively loud system, maybe you can tell because as I get further down the road it's still louder. I'm not sure. It's like 11 MB or so. It's also a wmv file, hopefully that works for everyone.

Note our mocking redn3ck language haha.

PS: Hooker longtubes coming this spring.
