I've looked high and low and I can't find a 350 stock with a pacesetter catback. Anyone have a sound clip or personal experience? Yes I've searched.

Re: Pacesetter Exhaust!
Pacesetter is one of the "low-end" systems, if you know what I mean.

I hear that a lot too, but I am completely happy with my pace setter headers.

Alright I've given this thread ample time to acquire some quality replies before I ttt it. So here it is TTT. Common guys I'm desperate. Why is it "low end" anyway?

Anything is better than the drone master. I'm interested to hear this setup too. The price is reasonable.

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
I just put a 3" pacesetter on my 305. I like the way it sounds. I haven't been able to drive it yet so all i know is that is sounds good revving up and at idle. Ill try to get a sound clip for it. It looks good too with the tips. I think it was worth the money.

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
just ordered this exhaust for my 350, it'll be mated to some hooker 2055s and a catco cat. I'm also interested in a clip so I'll know what to expect.

Board went down when I was trying to reply earlier.

I put the Pacesetter cat-back on back in 2001. I never installed the muffler, because the "3-inch inlet" was a 2-1/2" pipe expanded to 3" to fit the I-pipe.

The I-pipe and tailpipes were a nice mandrel bent pieces. Aluminized, no deterioration in the time since, including winter driving.

I sold the muffler to a member here. Never heard back from him what he thought of it.

Well that answers why almost no one has used this system. Oh well. Thanks for clearing that up. That sucks.

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
So this the end of the exhaust system or can it still be installed? Whats wrong with the pipe being expanded to fit the 3"?

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EohJH2ALg-I here is a link to how my sounds i will try to get a better one this weekend. I have a mostly stock 305 with no headers. I didn't have a problem with the exhaust going together. Everything fit perfectly. It is 2 1/2 on the outlet end. its not stretched anywhere.

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
When he says stretched, he means that for the 3" inlet, it only has a 2.5" pass tube inside. Most cheap mufflers are like this so they don't have to make multiple sized pass tubes. They just make one or two size pass tubes and then expand the inlet sleeves accordingly. What's wrong with this, is that it kills flow. You might as well only have a 2.5" mid pipe if you are going to run a 2.5" phony 3" muffler.

Thats very true, its like sucking through a straw, its wide and open then all of a sudden it restricts everything cuz it gets smaller in diameter at the top. same thing pretty much..

Re: Pacestter Exhaust!
Its all stock except for accel plugs, cap, rotor, wires and coil. I also took off the stock airfilter and put a K&N open element set up on it. THis fall i'll do the engine swap.

I stuck the muffler on one header collector on the '57 for grins (curious what it sounded like). I thought it had a nice tone. Disappointing that it had the small 2-1/2" tube inside.

It could be argued that the large 3" I-pipe gives plenty of a "plenum" for the exhaust pulses that the 2-1/2" pipe in the muffler doesn't make any difference. On a stock or mild 305, that's sure to be true. I just didn't want to take the chance with a "healthy" 305, which got upgraded to a 350 later, anyway.

(For the record, I fully disclosed the reason I didn't use the muffler to the member who bought it - he didn't care, he had a stock 305 and just wanted a cheap replacement for his rusted-out stock muffler.)
