84 ta header ?

i have a 84 t/a with a gm 350 universal crate motor with stock exhaust. What header would you recommend? A y pipe doesn't matter as my exhaust guy will do a custom y pipe with 3" back to a flowmaster. Will longtubes do better than shorties on a daily driver?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

A couple of questions:

Do you have emissions testing or inspection to pass?

Will your exhaust guy charge you for fab'ing a y-pipe? Will he do mandrel bends?

Do you have future performance upgrades in mind? (Oops, that's 4 questions. . .)

Longtubes reduce ground clearance. There's no getting around that. You can do shorties with y-pipe and stock factory exhaust routing that won't have that problem. I don't know about your daily driving conditions, but to me, that's a big deal.

I'm partial to Hooker 2055HKR's with their emissions-compliant design and pre-fab'd mandrel bent y-pipe. If you have performance upgrades in mind, get a hold of Board member Dyno Don about his custom made shorties & y-pipe.

No i don't have to worry about emissions checks. Ground clearance is an issue as i have 16 rims with eibech drop springs. My local exhaust shop will do a y pipe and run all the w ay back with a flowmaster for $400 and don't know if they do mandrell bends or not. I already have a performer intake with a holly 600 and will probally be looking at a cam
