Building my own exhaust ,have questions

I have an 85' Camaro Z-28 with the 3" Flowmaster American Thunder system on it. I don't like the way it sounds with the 80 series muffler so my plans are to take it off and replace it with a 2 chamber 40 series or 44 series or some other 3" single in/out muffler. It will obviously have one single tailpipe which will be tucked up as close as possible under the car so it can't be seen. Has anybody done this ? How does it sound ? I basically want it to mimic the Mufflex 3.5" or 4" system only it will be 3". One of the reasons for me doing it this way is it will be alot cheaper than buying another crossflow muffler, plus I figured it may flow a little better with one single 3" outlet than dual 2.5". Lastly I feel it may be a little louder with a shorter muffler on it vs. the longer crossflow muffler.

Let me know what your opinions are . Any sound clips please post them. Thanks

if you want to mimic the mufflex, use a spintech muffler, they are more common of the mufflex kits than the flowmaster. I have a crappy 80 series flowmaster on my motor and it still sounds sick
