Borla cat back and electric cutout?
Borla 14888 Details
1982-92 Camaro/Firebird Cat-Back Exhaust System
The Adjustable System is a unique, dual-purpose system which starts at the rear of the catalytic converter and goes over the rear axle. From there, the exhaust flows into a Y-pipe with exhaust tips on one end and a high-flow muffler/exhaust tips assembly on the other end. Four interchangeable plates come with the system which allow you to adjust noise and performance levels. Using the solid plate diverts all of the exhaust through the muffler (street legal). The other plates have holes in varying diameters, or you can refrain from using any plate at all, running a straight-through exhaust, which can be easily converted back to street-legal in a matter of minutes. Clamps and necessary mounting hardware are included.

Anybody do this already?? I'm thinking about getting this and replacing the "plates" with the electric cutout. This way I can adjust on the go.

Re: Borla cat back and electric cutout?
I am considering GMMG, Magnaflow, and Borla. I have a manual cutout now, and I am going to incorporate an electric cutout into whatever system I get. But Borla makes it look like it will be the easiest to do it with. I'm afraid the GMMG will be to loud for a DD.
I'll be using it with SLP shorties and Y pipe.

Borla with an electric cutout.
That picture is the system that fits on our cars.

Closed, it sounded nice and mellow at idle and not too loud at WOT.
Opened, it was louder and raspier and at WOT it was really loud and raspy, but sounded great.
This was on an LT1 with Edelbrock headers and a high flow cat that we installed into my friends 82. He's J's TA here on the board.
Here are a couple of videos of mine with the Borla fully opened,

And I "think" this one is with it closed (but it sounds kinda loud, so it might have been open).

First off.....that is the exact picture of the borla I got for my car. I use the wide open plate and I have edelbrock headers....y-pipe...cat eliminator pipe. Its is a mean *** sounding camaro. I mean I only have a 5.0 TPI but people are constantly telling me its the best sounding stock camaro exhaust. I was thinking of using the electric switch but I like they way it is as is now. And who said the Borla cat-back was expensive.....I got mine 550 brand new.

Re: Borla cat back and electric cutout?
$550 Brand new for this setup??

I've never found any cheaper than $834. Where are your sources, lol I would LOVE to spend less on this. I've got a 383 stroker project that this is going on, and every dollar saved is a dollar spent somewhere else..

Re: Borla cat back and electric cutout?
I ended up buying a 4th gen Borla catback off ebay ($275) from a local seller. He owns a custom exhaust shop, and it was on a customers car that went to true duals. I drove down and he modified and installed it on my car. I have to say it sounds so much better than the Flowmaster catback I had on the car. He didn't know which plate was in it, but it is one of the plates that has a hole in it, so some of the exhaust goes straight out, some of it goes through the muffler. I will be replacing the plate with an electric cutout anyways. I've started to organize a group purchase for the McCord Power Plate. I can't state enough how much better than Flowmaster this Borla system sounds.

Re: Borla cat back and electric cutout?
I love my Borla over my old Flowmaster. I just put the 50% plate in yesterday since I had been running fully closed for about a year now.
I didn't realize how much power I was losing (instantly felt it as I drove to the car parts store to get some armor all).
I found my electric plate in the garage yesterday as well, I just need to find a replacement stepper motor to replace the burnt out one.

Here's a few pics, I may tuck the tips up closer to the bumper.
