Re: What would be the best Headers For my car? Help please!
Well, if you just put 2 1/4 inch exhaust on, then you need to take that crap back off, and get 3" cat-back atleast.
I bought the hedman shorties, decent - cheap
Flowtech shorties, suck - cheap
Hooker shorties, decent - cheap
You see where I am going with this, the cheap ones, are not gonna be the best. They will work pretty damn good for what you are gonna be doing though. I bought the hedman shorties, and they seem pretty decent, but getting a y-pipe built/installed sucks. The flowtech shorties, come with a y-pipe but you need a shop to connect the y-pipe up. If you are going to leave your 2 1/4 inch exhaust, I wouldnt even put headers on.

Re: What would be the best Headers For my car? Help please!
If you want a quality set of shorties that will be good on both your 305 and a pretty decent 350 too, contact "Dyno Don" on the forum.
He makes a really nice set of headers for these cars. They are based off the SLP 1 3/4" stainless headers, but he re-designed around a few of the only problems with them. They are suppesed to be the best shorties you can get for these cars.
They might cost a little more now, but if you really are planning a 350 install, it will be worth it to get a nice set of headers you can transfer to the new motor.

The 68618 headers you pictured are for big-block engines, and you have a small-block engine in your car.
Contact Dyno Don. He makes great headers that fit our cars. You can
this Exhaust forum for the pictures he's posted.

Re: What would be the best Headers For my car? Help please!
Ur not gonna find good headers for $250. If that is all you can spend, then I would look for some of the nicer factory manifolds. I believe they came on L69 cars and L98 cars, but not sure.
--------------------------------------------------
Just being nosy here, but what exactly did don quote you $400 for? Was there air tubes in those, and did they come with a y-pipe?
Because the Hooker 2055's are supposed to be about the best [mass produced] shorties you can get online. They have a really nice y-pipe, full a.i.r setup, and supposedly a pretty easy install.
But they are like $450 I think. If don quoted you $400 for a set with a y-pipe, then that would be an amazing deal!! His are far and above the 2055's.
---------
Another thing to consider, is if you did manage to get a set of the real cheap flowtechs or the summit shorties, you would not want to use them on even a mildly built 350 motor. But dons headers have the best flange design and collectors, and the large primaries, they would work awesome on a 350 even more than your 305.
