I think the long tubes are great but you will need a gear in the car also. do the gear first then the headers hedman has a long tube that is priced right at $100.00 1 5/8 tube.

Its not worth the hassle on a California car, as long tubes are not smog-legal. Just get some of Dyno Don's 1 3/4" shorty headers and be happy.

I am very happy with my shortys and I think short tubbed headers are fine for anyone who doesn't plan on building their motor to the hill. However, if you're going past moderate modifications (cam, heads, etc.) than yeah, long tube headers will really compliment everything. Kinda a pain for clearance, though.

Re: longtubes worth it?
u def need gears. i went with heman l/t's and i lovem. i got them b/c i heard they fit better in our cars then the hookers do but i can't confirm that b/c i never put hookers on one of these. so its just here-say on my part.
all in all i would do the gears first u won't believe the diff. if u go to 3.73's it will feel like u added 60 h/p.

Re: longtubes worth it?
Originally I just made improvements, one piece flange (3/8th's thick) ball and socket connectors (no gasket needed) redesigned the left header to clear the steering, and made the AIR tubes a direct fit.
Then I saw the need to change the tubes to accommodate all the different spark plugs angles and raised the exhaust ports .100 to fit the raised port heads.
Wella, now we have a header that fits almost all applications and doesn't burn spark plug wires.
I also make a y-pipe that is 2 1/2" into a 3" collector (not 2 1/4")
and dual 2 1/2" pipes for dual cats.
