angled header shims?

is there such a thing as an angled shim you can put between the cylinder heads and a set of headers? i picked up a random set of long tube headers, passenger side fits really tight and the end of the collector is just touching my frame... i figured if i could get say, a wedge-shaped header gasket it'd pull the collectors in an inch or so. anyone ever hear of such a thing? or am i gonna have to fab my own?

i haven't tried to fit the driver's side yet... looks to me like the collector might interfere with the thing on the side of the tranny (think it's the clutch linkage) so i might be S.O.L. anyways. won't be gettin any more done on the car this weekend anyway, hopefully i'll know by monday night if the driver's side is gonna fit. might have to "customize" it a bit... if ya know what i mean..

on a related note... how important is an x- or h-pipe for a dual exhaust system? basically what i'm thinking of doing is raising the rear passenger floor pans to fit a pair of mufflers, then dumping it out the sides in front of the rear wheels, and i'm a bit concerned with ground clearance. just wondering if anyone's got some experience testing a similar dual exhaust system with and without. much appreciated

Re: angled header shims?

well i guess my first question is moot... driver's side wouldn't fit. so i went ahead and bought a set of hooker 2460's. my second question still stands tho... how much of a difference for exhaust scavenging does an H- or X-pipe make on a dual system?

I've seen people claim an X-pipe or H-pipe will add 5-20 horsepower.

If you were thinking of gaining clearance for pipes or mufflers....How about this?

Very nice... looks about like what I was thinking (minus the roll cage, at least for now)
