Finally going to bite the bullet

So everyone that I know has been telling me that my 3 inch exhaust is not enough. So I was thinking of upgrading to a 3.5 mufflex cat back. I have no plans of making anymore than 500 horse. My question is which muffler should I go with through mufflex, or is there another company that I should go with for a 3.5 exhaust. I don't think anyone else makes one for our cars, and our bender can bend anything more than 3 inches. Oh yeah I want a muffler that I can have dual exhaust with also.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

My IROC originally had a 383 stroker, and the current exhaust setup has a 4" Mufflex catback with a Flowmaster muffler, single outlet. It sounds good, but drone-y with the 305 setup thats in it for now. I was told it sounded wicked with the 383, though.

I'm not one to praise Flowmaster, I am just telling you what I have

What muffler should I go with the 3.5. Anyone with experience with the spintech?

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

From Mufflex the Spintech is the better choice. Ultimately I like the Magnaflow 12909 muffler. It is of the straight through design for maximum flow and not loud at all until you put the pedal to the metal.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

Lots of guys have the Mufflex catback but swap out the Spintech/Flowmaster for a ultraflo or similar type muffler. The spintech muffler is uber restrictive and the flowmaster, well I'll just leave it at that. My stroker will be using my current setup I ran with my old motor. 3" piping with a Bullet in my SLP LM instead of the SLP raspy muffler.

Can you get the ultra flow from mufflex in the 3.5.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

Is there much of a difference between a 3 inch catback with a cut out compared to a 3.5 cat without a cut out. I just want to know if I should buy a new exhaust or not.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

If you have patience build your own exhaust. I have a 383 and I made 3" duals for my car that go out the back into 2 flowmaster 40's. I have a link with a video of how it sounds with a radical cam.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

Its not really about patience but about spending 500 more dollars if not more on an exhaust that flows about the same as the one I have on right now

I don't have $500 in mine and I'm positive it flows like 2 3" mandrel pipes

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

I wouldn't worry about going to 3.5". From what I've always been told, the 3" should flow enough for 500hp.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

A 3 inch pipe flows enough for 370 horse. The standard calculation for max exhaust flow would be 2.2 cfm per horsepower. My goal of 500 crank horse would be around 1100 cfm, which is exactly what a 3.5 inch pipe flows.

Re: Finally going to bite the bullet

IMHO a 3.5" exhaust is the safe choice for max power.

But what I am really after if what would be the difference between running my 3 inch catback with a 3 inch cutout as comparted to just a 3.5 inch catback
