looking at long tube headers and complete exhaust re-do
well i am looking to completely re-do my exhaust.
i have an 85 IROC with a 350 and 700r4
the 350 makes in the neighborhood of 380-400 hp at the crank
im looking to make some noise, but not **** off everyone that hears me drive by.
advise me.
yes, i know there is a search button, but most threads i found were just a bunch of banter back and forth about emissions devices and such. as of now, i have no emissions devices on the car, not because i think it will help me with anything, but because thats how i got it. i want headers with no air tubes. cats are fine, as i have one on the car now.
as for dual exhaust vs single, i am fine with a single, but with long tubes, duals may be the only way.
budget is a concern, as well.

If it were me I would get a set of Dyno Don's headers with his y pipe along with a 3.5 mufflex catback with a spintech muffler. I think this would be the best option along with the best ground clearance as well.

Re: looking at long tube headers and complete exhaust re-do
I used Hedman headers, S extentions, and mated a flowmaster scavenger Y to it all and then to a stock catback with a 3" DMH electric cut out. Price for it all wasnt bad, $150 for headers, $35 or so for the S extentions, $50 for the Y, ~$35 for some misc bends to make the S extentions fit the Y pipe, free catback off of an LS1 car that i put a different set up on, and around $150 for the E cut out.
Ground clearence does suffer though, as the Y has to go under the tranny xmember. My next project will be to clearence the xmember and re do the Y pipe to sit higher.
Now the car is dead silent in cabin, cruising, and loud when the cut out is open. When i have dynoed, i have picked up a solid 15-17rwhp with the cut out open.
If i was to ever do it again, i would use a Hooker Areo 3" catback, or a custom 3.5" exhaust with a hooker muffler. They are quite, deep, and flow great.

Hedman LT's, custom/Mufflex Y-pipe, 3"/3.5" catback system with an Ultraflo muffler or run the SLP LM system like I did. Do NOT use the spintech muffler. Guys who have run those end up swapping them out for something else and gain power. They are super restrictive.
