3inch to 2inch to wrong muffler???
3inch to 2inch to wrong muffler???
Some of you have posted suggestion about my exhaust project. Today I was finally done dealing with the old rusted muffler that had bailing wire and tin cans holding it together. My first clue that something was wrong was that instead of it being welded together, it was all done with c clamps. So it was not the orig exhaust as I had once thought. So I finally get it all off and decide to measure the pipe. 2 1/2 over the axle??? I go to the front of the car, two cats into a Y and what I think is 3inch. Appears about half way back a second pipe has been spliced into place and it is converted to 2 1/2 inch.
So I look at the muffler... All ends are 2 1/2 and where the exhaust from the front was connected the arrow pointed out. In fact the IN arrow was on the other side where the drivers side tailpipe was connected.
I always thought the car felt "sluggish". So I fired her up. Sounds great, and talk about driving like a new car. I am tempted to just leave it with no muffler! Other than making it less noisy do I need a muffler? Well and being legal of coarse.
Talk about a suprise.

Aftermarket cat back time for sure. You'll have great sound, and the power to back it up.
No your engine does not need a muffler to run(back pressure is a stupid myth to be sucked into). In fact any less restrictions in the exhaust, the better, as you can tell by how much better your car runs now w/o the muff.

if cops have nothing better to do in your town you might get a ticket for noise violations.. that's about it.

LOL I think I have the cop market cornered... The law reads as long as their is emissions control device and "muffler" you are within the law. So technically a cherry bomb glass pack is a "muffler" even if its just a red pipe. So I am within the law even if I am a cop I have to follow it.
