My 'mostly new' Exhaust Clip

Just thought I would share my 'mostly new' exhaust and clip.

What I had :

I just restored the entire underbody (about 96% thus far) after rebuilding the transmission. Having cut off most of the ol 2.5" Dynomax exhaust kit Ive had on there since 1996-ish, I decided it was time for new pipes and upgrade.
I had the Dynomax STurbo bolt-in kit when it was the 305 (H) motor. Lasted for many years and was worth the $120.00 I sheled out for it back then. The D.Max muffler had internal issues around 2001 and I swapped in a #42583 Flowmaster 80-series. I had also cut the rear single-cat flange off and made a 'test pipe' in the converters' place.
When I did the 355 swap, I was funds limited, so I had still a set of Headman 1 5/8 non-emission shorty headers with their y-pipe and also the Flw/D.Max kit in 2.5" pipes.
I got a set of SLP #30005C 1 3/4 shorty/ceramic headers with the stainless y-pipe. I planned ahead for a 3" exhaust and got the SLP 3" 45* cat adapter. Had a 3" test pipe made, but in order to keep it going until I had enough funds for the rest of the exhaust, I had the 2.5" converter flange re-welded to the test pipe.

What I got :

I found that Dnomax sells the smooth mandrel bent pipes induvidually. Just needed the catalog, find the F-body model that had a single-cat and 3" intermediate pipe and get the part numbers.
I searched and found the best deal from Summit. Just typed in the part numbers. Classic Industries also sells/stocks them.
The 3" Int Pipe is 44063
The 3" Over-Axle pipe is 43248
I also got the Left and Right OEM-style 2.5" outlet pipes.
The Left is 43244
The Right is 43243
I bought a new Left tailpipe hangar and also the Right side Over-Axle pipe hangar from GM. The Tranny mount hangar is unavailible, but I was able to rebuild it using the stock metal peices and a universal rubber exhaust hangar strap.

BTW, I have complete set of pics of all these parts, the steps I took and the underbody refurb if anyone wants to see them.

Wanting it to remain hanging in stock fashion, I had to do some labor and fabbing. The only hard part of that task was the tranny hangar mounting flange. Which is the same flange that the oEM Intermediate pipe bolted to.
So I **** my used-over 2x's stock Cat Flange, cut off what was left of the 2.5" ball-end and reamed it out to 3" in the center.
Then I bought a Flowmaster Ball-Socket flange lit in 3". Took one of the Ball ends and fitted it into the newly reamed out OEM Cat flange. The Dynomax Intermidiate pipe's 3" Socket end bolted right up to the Flow 3" Ball end.
Had the Ball-end wleded to the cat flange (it doubles as the tranny hangar if you didnt already know) and also a new 3" pipe welded in place as the new 'test pipe'.

Last issue was the Flowmaster muffler. The 42583 is the stock crossflow with a 2.5" Inlet. I needed a 43083 which is a 3.0" Inlet. Knowing that other than the inlet size, the 2 mufflers are identical, I took a peice of 3" pipe and placed it over the 2.5 Inlet pipe. I traced out the 3" diameter, took a Sawzall and loped off the 2.5 Inlet pipe where it 'cones' out and then welded the 3" pipe in place.
Viola!, A poor mans 43083 Flow.

I wanted some type of nice exh tips on there and no chrome ones. It took a good day to get the pipes all mocked in place, muffler straight, tails coming out straight instead of the stock up-then-down setup and the tails evenly spaced apart/to centered.
I loped off the D.Max pipes just B4 the angle bend and got some extention peices to come straight back.
I had found the tips last year on E0bay from the SLP closeout site. They are 2002 Annilversary Firehawk tips. Cast aluminum with stainless short fit extensions on the back. Now originally the 2002 Anniv Hawks had the 'GOLD' treatment done to the wheels and the exh tips. They had some of those on there too. But they had a few sets of the tips that had NOT had the Gold treatment done and were just naturally alum colored. I thought they were nice, I scored them for a hellova deal and they are unique.

After I got it all 'tack' welded up, I trailered it to my favorite exhaust shop for the final welding. They got it all done nicely. I also had my Spohn rear LCA relocation brackets ans Alston SFC's welded in too.
So Im pretty stoked about that. Now if I can just get the tranny going right, Ill be crusing to the local carr meet in a few weeks.

Heres a quick exhaust clip and a pic.

Re: My 'mostly new' Exhaust Clip

Thanks. Idle was a bit low actually. It was still cold and not up to op-temp range.
I need to get a smaller carb. I got a nice BG Demon 750 I want to swap for a BG or Holley 650 or 675. The 750 is just too big for the 355ci motor. I worked with the BG guy on here for a while trying to get it to work better and not suck so much petro. LOL But I think its just too big.
