header fitment problems

I put a 400sb in my 92rs and im running hedman shorties. The problem is that the collector flange is up against the frame rail and wont let my mini starter bolt up. The person that had the car before me apparently hit a curb with the passenger side front tire. I had to replace the spindle. Is it possible that the frame rail got pushed in that far or is there something wrong with my headers?

Not sure where it's hitting or why, its' pretty hard to tell without photos. I have a problem with the engine being moved over in the chassis because of a previous wreck, and my headers are just hitting everywhere.

Re: header fitment problems

it's very possible you'r a little tweaked , frame wise . but how about motor & tranny mounts ??? old ones can sag/droop and cause clearence problems . oh well , good luck .

Re: header fitment problems

Im going to haul it to the frame shop early next week, so we will see. I went ahead and got all new tie rods, center link, and idler arm. Going to have them replace all of it while they got it. If that doesn't work then we will try new motor mounts.

Re: header fitment problems

I just dropped a 383 in my 91 Z28 and I too am running Headman Header's Shorties with AIR provisions. My Headers fit BARELY and only after recentering the powertrain with new mounts... (no wrecks)

I have a problem that the Y-pipe that came with my Headmans doesn't fit. The driver's side collector adapater (the slip fit one) isn't long enough. The pipe clears the oil pan fine but the angle and length to bring the collector and adapter to meet it are ALL wrong... I love the headers otherwise... just a little PO'ed that the Y pipe still needs Fab.

Re: header fitment problems

Got the same issues with my Hedman headers, are these new stock or old as there seems to be a few problems with the newer versions. The Hedmans I just took off were a really good fit however.

I'll be trying the replacement engine mount option too as the banging around is driving me nuts.
