Camaro SS Center Mount Exhaust

Anyone see how the camaro SS center mount exhaust would not work on a thirdgen? I am going to have a small portion of the rear bumper cut out to fit these in just like the SS camaro... but I am worried about connecting this center mount exhaust to mufflers beneath the car. Any info on this would be great.

Also, anyone know where to buy this exhaust from? Just looking for the rear center mount exhaust tips.

Ive been wanting to do this for some time now, The tips are available on ebay and I think through SLP still. From what I can tell is that your going to run into a prbloem with the trunk well floor. Its been a while since I last looked but I believe that will not allow the tips to tuck up into the bumper. What I was planning to do was to center the tip where i wanted it in the bumper. Then fab up all the piping back to the tail pipes. On the 4th gens the exhaust doesnt actually recess into the bumper. If you look there is a lower extention panel on the bottom of the bumper that houses the tip. Check out the hawks web site, they have a white vert with the CME

Yea, I was hoping with some custom bend exhaust pipes I could get it to work... I am going to try and make it happen so when I do I will post pics and tips.

I too had thought about doing this long ago, and hawks thirdgen used these tips on their rear mount STS thirdgen that Grifter757 purchased. It's an exceptional car and he has done quite a few mods since he purchased it to make it even more unique.

Here are some links:

After researching it, there was a company I heard about on LS1tech that started making urethane rear valences for 4th gens so that cars that didn't come with the centermount exhaust from the factory could put it on their car for cheap. It would be possible to contact that company and see if they'd be interested in making a valence to adapt those tips onto a thirdgen.

SLP no longer offers this setup, but did offer the quad (4 tip) centermount exhaust for some time (they may still offer it). I also read on ls1tech that there was a company interested in making the centermount tips to sell. I never heard anything else about it though. You can still find a few sellers with them for sale on eBay. But be careful because there are some cheap knockoffs out there that aren't made quite as well as the original SLPs.

Also, there is one company who made a larger fabricated centermount set of tips, only without the rolled edge. They aren't as easy to see from the rear though. (since the lip of the tip isn't rolled like the SLPs) Here is a pic:

I actually just bought those... lol. Those are the ones I am going to put on my 92z. I found the SLP ones on ebay for like $270 or something like that... if you want the tips with the valance then I have seen them for $800 - not worth that much in my opinion, probably cheaper to have body shop make a cut in your existing bumper.

Post some pics up when you get them on the car. I'd love to see your setup.

Re: Camaro SS Center Mount Exhaust

Will do, it may be a little while but I will try to get some mock-up pics. The car will go to the body shop in the next two weeks then they said they would get me a few day turnaround which is awesome!

I am going to have them make a cut out for the tips. They are currently being constructed and should ship out friday to me. Plenty of pics to come.

Re: Camaro SS Center Mount Exhaust

I didn't know if you had seen this picture, but it was the only one I've found with the centermount on a thirdgen (with the hole cutout for the tips). I think this was a fbody motorsports car or possibly thirdgenresource car back in the day?

The tips on the camaro in the picture arent straight, for whatever reason, but it give you an idea of what to expect.

Re: Camaro SS Center Mount Exhaust

From the pic it almost looks like the center bar the connects the two tips and holds them together is either missing or broke off... if you look at the pic of the tips above there is a small bar that connects the two. When I last spoke to the guy who is having these made he said they use a beefy bar so it should never break off or come apart.

We will see what it looks like, but overall I think that pic look good, but def. would be very nice once they are straightened up a bit.
