exhaust leak

it seems every post i put up has something to do with a leak of some kind. this morning when i was under my car fixing some other crap i noticed the exhaust fumes coming out of the y pipe right before the cat converter. looks like there is a 2 inch crack along the bend before the cat. ive had a problem of passing emissions for the past year could a leak like this cause me to keep failing my emissions. if any of you guys know send me a post i could use the info.

Re: exhaust leak

For you failed emissions, a crack at the Y pipe could help you, letting nasty gasses escape before burning up in the cat.

Have you replaced the cat recently ? #1 cause of Emission Failure.

Re: exhaust leak

That will probably get ya to pass smog, for that crack, to keep the fumes from rolling inside, they have exhaust wrap "tape" at your local parts store.

Re: exhaust leak

Re: exhaust leak

Normally most shops have the cheap cats about 100-150 job, and the high flow cats which cost about 200-250. I have no clue what they put on mine, i told them I didnt care as long as it was high flow and passed smog.

Which they passed and got a little bit more throaty sounding from the rear.
