Hedman Y-pipe wont work!!!!

I have hedman shorty elites on my 350 and the required hedman Y-pipe with the ball and socket flange. The headers work and sound great however the Y-pipe hits the oil pan and the passenger side frame near the cross member, making it impossible to install.

I have no idea what to do with the setup now other than paying a shop to cut, weld and recreate the hedman Y-pipe that i purchased.

Is there anything else i could try and how much should i be expecting to pay to have a shop fix my exhaust dilemma?

Can we assume you have a stock oil pan?

I'd talk to Hedman or whoever you bought it from first.

Old sagging rubber motor mounts can cause issues with exhaust not fitting/rubbing, on the flip side new poly motor mounts can cause problems too.

Re: Hedman Y-pipe wont work!!!!

well i have a stock oil pan and original mounts. but it seems like there isnt enough space between the oil and the cross member for the 2.5'' pipe to fit on the driver side, that the problem location #1 and then were the pipes combine into the y-collector is hitting on the frame of the car on the passenger side, here the header outlet will not even mount to the collector from the pipe i called hedman and they said that it should be a perfect fit, the only trimming or modification needed may be for the catalytic.

Your car might have crash damage, mine did and it drove me nuts until I had it on the rack and you could see where the subframe was pushed back into the firewall under the A/C evaporator. I didn' think it was that heavy of a crash, but apparently these cars bend pretty easily.

i thought that could be the problem... Should i try loosening the headers, connecting the Y and then re-tightening the headers or will that just ruin my headers?

That will bind the crap out of the bolts going into the heads. Try measuring from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear on both sides as precisely as you can and compare. If the wheelbases are off more than a fraction of an inch, you are bent. Mine was off by 3/4 of an inch.

The ideal option is to take the car to a frame shop and get it straightened, then everything should drop in. Otherwise, hammer and cut the y, and get someone to weld it back up for you. Sorry chief, but I know your pain.
