Header WRAP vs CERAMIC Coating
So I plan on buying hooker 2055s but would you do high temp for half the price and just buy header wrap or would you just go all out and buy the ceramic coated ones.

I can not find the reference at the moment, but in researching this issue before, I found information that claimed that the wrapped header actually breaks down molecularly and exhausts the molocules out the tail pipe.
This is caused by the heat retention produced by the wrapping- that heat would previously have been radiated safely away, but because of the wrap it is retained and raises the temperature of the pipe beyond its structural limits.
This source claimed that as a result of this many racing teams stopped using the wrapping because of the need to replace the headers all the time.
That may be why some have reported their headers 'rusting' out under the wrap. If it is a regularly used vehicle, this would make no sense- any moisture striking the hot wrapping would cook off and even if the wrap were to become wet when cold, the moisture would cook off immediately the engine was fired up. The 'rust' they speak of may in fact be the failure of the pipe due to the molecular breakdown.
Anyway, coated headers look cooler!

Header wrap voids all header warranties.
As far as I know EVER HEADER COMPANY...and I mean EVERYONE states that you should NOT use header wrap as it will cause hot spots and actually like said above, break down the metal, deform it and eventually break it...
Go with a coating. Jet-Hot says $200 for headers and $50 a foot or so for y-pipes. These were quotes so maybe look into it.
Also realize 2055's come coated if you buy 2055-1's
I am buying the black painted ones, removing the tubes and then having them sent out for coating to Jet-Hot.

Ya, I live in Canada though and paying shipping here then shipping them back into the states does not make sense. But ya sounds like ceramic is definitely the way to go. If any Canada guys know where to get ceramic coating that would for sure help me out. . .

Have them coated, but make sure its inside and out. JetHot is the way to go.

I have my headers wrapped on my 55. I wanted an old school look. Ill never use that stuff again. Coating is the way to go.

You can buy coated headers directly from Jet Hot, then 1 way shipping to you... That's how I got my 2055's from them...

Plus they can remove AIR tubes and weld them up before coating... I got an email about a month ago from them that they have many distributors, maybe some in Canada...
I love my Jet Hot Hooker 2055's... Plus they have a lifetime warranty form Jet Hot if they ever were to rust through...

i have some hooker 2055 - brand new and i wanted jet to coat them, but not the y pipe. their estimate was 350.00 plus shipping.
dont know who told you 200 but that is for one header not both.
and frankly, i dont like to do business with anyone that will not post their prices up front and jet does not do that. i always had the feeling the price was what they could get you to agree too, rather than what is charged to everyone.
so no, i did not and will not use them.

my hooker 2055's without y pipe were 140 to coat after the thirdgen.org discount from jet hot back in 03. I recently had them quote me 308 bucks last year for my 2210 long tubes so I just bought them directly from jethot already coated. Much cheaper that way
And i'm sure the cost of coating varies between headers based on size. But they could give a set price estimate for shorties and one for long tubes that gives a rough idea what you'll be looking at.

after all they have a book they look them up in when you call - my problem is that book may just have a range for your model and that can change from customer to customer.
too bad cal has all that air quality crap and we cant get jet done here. arizona is only a few miles away, its not like they keep their air in a plastic bag, or california does.
heck we are all breating that crap india, china and africia put out without any regulations at all.

So they will sell me hooker 2055s with the air tubes removed with a coated ypipe as well? I hear the 2055 ypipe is much better than the 2460 one. I was just gonna buy 2460-1 ceramic coated with ypipe for my stock GTA. I plan on removing the A.I.R. system. So would you guys just order 2055s from jet hot with the air tubes removed?

I had no idea you could do the 2055's without air. I thought that is what the 2460's were, i have a set of them here (I think they are hooker 2460s they may be hedmans i gotta look) and they look pretty similar to the 2055's from what i can remember

The 2055 headers use 18gauge steel which is less restrictive than the 16gauge used on the 2460's. Also the y-pipe for the 2055's are complete mandrel bent pieces, whereas the 2460's also being 1/2" smaller is bent piping welded together in pieces.
So in the long run the 2055's are of way better quality. Even with the stock collector flange style.

I was told by jet-Hot I should just have the tubes cut myself then send them back to be coated, said it would probably be cheaper. But then again they change their mind every time I call them.
Now that I think about it, Jet-Hot is very very much telling everyone so many different prices, not to mention myself.

Consider shipping costs...
My box was big & bulky and heavy...
So check with jet hot for a price.. bought from them shipped once to you...
Then consider the other route... buy from someone else, ship to you, ship again to jet hot and then ship a 3rd time back... There are local shops that do ceramic coating, check local race sites / craig lists, etc...

So you'd cut the air tubes of the 2055s and send them to ceramic coating instead of buying ceramic coated 2460s with the ypipe for the same price of the 2055s in high temp black? Beause price is a factor for me and chances are there's not much performance difference from the 2055s +ypipe and the 2460s+ ypipe; maybe a few horses right?

For most power goals under 350whp, i dont think there is a difference between the 16ga and 18ga wall thicknesses to create a flow problem

i bought my 2055-1's(ceramic coated) for just under $800 after tax from a supplier called MOPAC
there happens to be one in edmonton too. only issue i had with them was they said it would take under 6 weeks to arrive...3 months later i finnally got em.

2460 y-pipe = 2.5" outlet
My cat and cat-back is 3", no reason for a 2.5" y-pipe.
All together my header setup cost me $900. So all in all for the work done and to still have them jet hot coated and only be $100 more than stock ceramic coating (which isn't coating the inside as well like Jet-Hot)...sounds not that much of a waste to me.
