Well kinda :P

My wife was driving to work the other day and she noticed the engine getting much louder, then she heard a rattling scraping sound coming from the back.

Turns out the weld between the left tail pipe meets the muffler broke and was dragging on the ground.

I got under there when I got home from work and sure enough rust has torn up the weld. I looked around and the right side tail pipe was in tact, but the weld was also pretty rusty, and I also noticed a few spots of rust on the muffler itself.

I don't have the cash to fix this right now so my question is, should I leave everything like it is, or cut off and remove the muffler and tail pipes until I can get it replaced.

I drove around for months with (unknowingly) a rusted out hole in the bend above the axle. If you remove the muffler entirely, you may not like the sound that comes out.

The cops tend to give you a hard time too if they think it is too loud.

Cut the left tailpipe off and leave as is till you can fix it properly. I imagine removing the whole muffler is going to annoy the neighbors and everyone else that hears it.
