cat back

i got my 2055's the other day, but i don't have a new cat or exhaust system (besides stock)

and i was wondering if i cut the cat from the stock y-pipe, could i exhaust clamp it with the rest of my stock exhaust sytem onto the 2055 y-pipe? because honestly i have the money for a cat right now, but i don't have the money for a cat back system, plus i like the sound of my exhaust, just straight pipe.

Thanks for the help

Not really, because the 2055HKR y-pipe outlet is 3", and your existing exhaust is 2-1/4".

You could have an adapter made to go from the 3" to 2-1/4" and use that until you can replace the rest of the exhaust. Whatever you do, don't modify the 2055HKR y-pipe.

Re: cat back

lol, i wouldn't THINK of doing that.

I just don't want to have to pay anyone to weld anything, i don't have the money for that, thanks for the help though.

Re: cat back

Does anyone know of anywhere i could just get a 3 inch pipe that would go from the cat back?

It would have to follow the path of the stock pipe?

I've never heard of anything ready-made.

You could have a 2-1/4" piece of pipe expanded by a muffler shop to 3" on one end, and connect it between the y-pipe and cat-back. Of course, this would be illegal in all 50 states. . .

Re: cat back

Will they be able to expand it that much without tearing? I know it was hard to expand my stainless from 3" od to 3" id, they used ALOT of air pressure to do it. Only cost me 2 bucks too lol.

ah that's no good, seems like too much trouble to go through just for a single 3' pipe

I think i'll just buy a 3' cat and slip it on and leave it at that for now, some dude in my auto shop class has an 86 mustang like that and it sounds pretty good
