Complete Exhaust for 383

Ok guys , i've been searching around for about 2 hours , and i'm lost. I need a full exhaust setup for my 383 that i'm dropping in soon. I need everything including headers. I do not need A.I.R. And i don't mind having or not having a cat. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me part numbers so i could have a complete exhaust . Thanks

-Tyler

Re: Complete Exhaust for 383

Ok basicallly from what i understand , i need the headers(no a.i.r) with a matching y-pipe. And a cat back. And what if i dont run a cat? Wouldnt there be a gap between the y-pipe and the cat back setup? Or should I just run a Cat?

no reason not to run a cat, it will keep the car from smelling, keep it somewhat legal, and you wont miss the 5hp they take up.

Headers, hooker 2055's are the most common, probably the best fitting big name aftermarket headers. However they are only 1 5/8 primaries, a little small for a larger engine like a 383.

DynoDon here on tgo sells arguably the best shorty header setup available for the 3rd gen. 1 3/4 primary and 2.5" y, ceramic coated and the worlks. They are expensive though, probably blow most of you exhaust budget on them alone.

As for the cat back, magnaflow makes a good one, just search on jegs or summit or other similar sites for it. Mufflex sells the largest kits, 3.5" and 4" single tube systems, but again they are about 700bux.

You can probably get the hooker 2055's, uncoated, and a flowmaster or similar 3" catback, and a universal high flow cat for under a grand.
however coated headers are really the way to go, hands down. well worth the extra money

Re: Complete Exhaust for 383

Contact Dyno Don here on TGO for his headers. He can do them with or without A.I.R. tubes.

Run a Magnaflow cat. It costs you like what? 3 hp & keeps the car street legal & the air clean.

As for cat backs & mufflers.....A lot of that depends on personal preference of sound.

Yes, some flow better than others, but in the end, it usually falls on personal preference for sound. I like my LS1 TSP Rumbler Magnaflow cat-back on my L98.

Quiet at cruise, just a touch of it being there, but when I stab the throttle, you KNOW its there.

So the rumbler is a direct fit on our cars?

No. It is a LS1 4th gen kit that like any other, will need tweaking to fit our cars.

Re: Complete Exhaust for 383

The previous owner had it installed for him, so I'm not 100% sure.

I do know the hangers are different on ALL 4th gens and the intermediate pipe is a little different, since 98+ cars have (basically) a dual exhaust in front of their dual cats, then a Y-connection just behind the tranny.

From underneath, I don't see any major cutting/welding/tweaking done.

I know mine isn't (by far) the first 3rd gen with a LS1 cat-back on it.
