Couple of Header Q's

I have a 85 305 tpi iroc. I want to put shorty headers on and get rid of the cat. I noticed the headers on summit are only $90 but they are 1 1/2in. Will that make a difference in performance once I add a cam and maybe new intake manifold? I plan on keeping the car pretty stock and wanted to know if that would bottleneck the system. Also what y pipe would I need for that and would I be able to take off the A.I.R system? I already have the ac pulled off and would like to clean up the engine bay.

Heres a link to the summit headers. If they are crap just let me know, im just looking for a cheap good set.

1. Emissions testing? theyll fail you on the spot. Not to mention even if your local government doesnt require you to test, federal law says we need cats and air pumps, youd be best to keep them on.

2. Why are you trying to get rid of your cats? its smarter to just do your ehaust up right, i have a set of eldlebrock air tubes, with 3" y pipe to the Dynomax cat and all back 3" if youre gonna put money into your car just do it the right way, i love our cars but id rather not take my chances with global warming

Well I dont get emission tested and I want it all out. I dont beleive any of the "save the enviroment with a cat or air system. Sorry but Im not buying it. Just looking for some answers. So your saying the edelrock pipes would be better?
