ok so am i getting told wrong info?

i went to two different shops today and both told me that my exhaust cutout is

going to make my car run worse and sound like crap. its a 5.7 350 and i was

gonna put the 3 in cutout about midway down the intermediate pipe. the shop

said it wouldn't have enough back pressure but i thought im just making the

exhaust cutout before the muffler so what the big deal. so what do you think?

bs?

thats what i thought. i just want it to be a little louder you know a little more agressive. so i figure throw the cutout before the muffler no worries.

Sound is a matter of opinion. The cutout will not hurt your performance. It might feel like it has a little less torque, but it will be faster with it open.

What i'm about to say is probably totally wrong, but i'll say it anyways. When i started my car a few months ago with the 2055 headers on and suspension stuff done, i moved it around the shop with open Y-pipe. it seemed like it had more torque...i really didn't have to give it any gas to let the clutch out, before (last fall) i had to give it quite a bit of gas to get it to move. Could the headers and new accel plugs make that difference? Or was it just my mind playing games

Lol, I'd say your mind was playing games, I just don't think headers could make THAT big of a difference.

Think about it, if it makes that big of a difference at idle imagine what it would do at WOT.

Could be wrong.

But anyway, shop mechanics get taught the same thing from their bosses, and they think it's the law because they're mechanics.

I was on the phone with an exhaust shop guy a couple weeks ago. (I've since changed my mind) But I wanted a straight pipe welded from my cat back, no muffler, and the guy was like "Hey, you know your car won't have any power like that right? Because it will have no backpressure". And I wasn't in the mood to argue so I was like "Ah, yeah, whatever, how much did you say it would be again?"

So it just shows you how they #1 don't know exactly what they're talking about and #2 How they exaggerate things. My car will obviously have power with a straight pipe from the cat back.
