Replacing exhaust, ideas?
The exhaust in my '82 t/a is rusting out, and I need to replace it. can I do that with the exhaust parts I see at autozone or o'reilly? I'm on a budget and live with my parents(college student) so I have to keep it quite. Though I don't want to lose too much performance. Also any muffler ideas? Right now I (parentmade) a SSR muffler on the t/a and neighbors and parents complain, though I like it

hooker 2055 headers with y-pipe. new 3 inch internal hi flow cat, then a 31 inch by 3 inch internal chambered exhaust.
cat less than 100.00
chambered exhaust - uses it as the center pipe - 80.00
headers - about 150.00 if you look around.

I was checking chambered exhaust online, and most people said it restricted the performance, and say X-pipes were quieter and less restrictive on hp. I don't enough about this to really know whats what or how it works....

x pipes for for people who want to run tru dual exhaust it joins the 2 pipes together and then goes back to duals to keep the flow on each pipe and the sound correct a chambered muffler will most likely be more restrictive then a flow through example glasspack vs flowmaster 40 but with your 305 i realy dont think i would worry about it if u need a cheap fix go to ebay search for exhaust camaro and pick your year you will be able to find a muffler in without the i pipe for about 100 bucks made by dynomax it will sound pretty close to stock so its not that loud but has a nice rumble when u get on it
