Need to replace/upgrade my exhaust!

Hey hows it going? I am in need of a new exhaust system since mine appears to be rotting out, ntm the previous owner had the collectors welded to the y-pipe . In doing this I would also like to upgrade as well to a 3" exhaust. I have plans in the future to install a true dual exhaust, but for now I want something like stock only better. I found this exhaust system from Random Technology on thunder racing (scroll to bottom of page): http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=6&pcid=53. I heard a couple of exhaust clips and really liked the exhaust tone.. much different but still agressive than a flowmaster 80 series. Its a slip-fit type kit as well so welding won't be required (I hope). What I really liked about it is that its a full 3" system . I am running hedman shorties at the moment with 2.5" collectors and what I wanted to do for now is purchase a pair of 3" to 2.5" reducers and run those off the headers into the new exhaust system and eventually purchase a set of headers with 3" collectors when $$$ becomes available. What do you guys think? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Phoenix

Yea, I understand what you Mean, Honestly, I know you said you just want something decent for now, But it would be so worth it just to go get your exhaust professionally done by a Speed Shop. And make it True Dual Exhaust, and have everything welded up properly, But keep the Cat(s) clamped on. I have an '83 Camaro that has an aftermarket Exhaust. I Brought it into my school (I take Auto Shop) and I put the car on the lift and the exhaust it the worst. The guy that had the car before me had no idea what he was doing. I brought it in because the car ran like crap. We decided to "unbolt" the cat (which ended up being the cause) and it was a complete pain in the A** because the cat was welded on. So I had to Cut it off then re-weld it, It was a mess. But you should just do yourself a favor by going to get what you want and have it done the right way insead of just getting a kit like that. You should just get 3'' Pipe from the Headers, 2 Catalytic Converters then some straight pipe to a flowmaster muffler, Dual 3'' in. in- Dual 3'' in. Out with some sick looking tips.

Ok I updated my title . I'd love to have something like that on my car bro but seriously I'm kind of forced to buy a less expensive kit since I won't be passng emissions with my current exhaust and I don't really want to spend alot on an exhaust just for that reason. A local shop charged me $675 for a new flowmaster exhaust system. No way! This kit is $389 not including shipping and my buddy will most likely charge me $100 to install it. How much would that setup you just mentioned cost? It sounds like a sick setup imo.

Thanks,
Phoenix

Re: Need to replace/upgrade my exhaust!

When money becomes available, I want to purchase a set of these Patriot headers (http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot-Exhaus...056-1/10002/-1). Since Arizona has stricter than s*** emissions laws, I have to keep my A.I.R. system which these headers don't have btw. Hedman makes a universal smog tube kit (http://www.jegs.com/p/Hedman/Hedman-...53420/10002/-1) which I'm going to have a local machine shop install on the headers to make them emissions legal. I'm going to try for 3" piping all the way through but if I have to use 2.5", I'm ok with that. I want to use a 3" y-pipe as well (http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...A2680A0A0.aspx). I should be able to get good ground clearance with those headers not bieng LTs. What do you guys think? Thanks again in advance.
