Help me decide on an exhaust.
So i recently picked up my new car, a 305 TPI T/A thats bone stock. My first order of business after a tune up is going to be an exhaust system, including headers. It will be a 3inch system, coming off a 3 inch y-pipe. Im trying to decide which headers fit my budget but my question is really about the exhaust.
Id like this car to be loud, ill be modding it in the future, but not for money reasons it will be stock. That said i would like something that i wont have to change out when im making more power. I live in FL so i will not be running a cat, or air tubes. Ive narrowed it down to two choices that i would like to try, and searching hasnt really found me anything.
First off is the normal crossflow muffler, i have a flowmaster on my camaro and i would like something a little louder so i would probably go with a magnaflow or borla this time out, nothing special just a full 3 inch system with dual outlets.
My second choice is what i need to know about. Id like to run a bullet style muffler, somewhere along the i-pipe, Now here is my question, if i do this i was thinking two options i could run 3 inch pipe off the muffler and simply dump it where the old crossflow muffler sits, keeping the exhaust hidden by not having tips. Would this affect anything? i hope to eventually put a cam in the car with the normal supporting mods, chip, roller rockers, injectors through a ported intake etc. My only concern would be having a single 3 inch outlet, and how that would sound. The other option is to split the 3 inch pipe into two 2.5 inch tips after it comes over the axle, while keeping the bullet muffler. Id like to try my first idea with the bullet because i like the look of T/A's with no visable exhaust tips, but im not sure if there are any big negatives to a setup like that, plus on the cost side it would be cheaper to run the pipe over the axle and dump it in a single outlet.
Any help is appreciated,
Chris
