Temporary exhaust setup question?
I was cutting my clogged cat off and the whole exhaust pretty much fell off so I have a question for a temp setup to pass inspection.
I have the y-pipe cut just behind the rear of the front pass. tire and I was thinking... Could I bolt on a temporary cat and dynomax bullet muffler dumped down by the pass. floor without using the hangers and have it actually stay on or is it too heavy?
I have a full header back exhaust to put on but there's no way I can drive it to the shop to get it put on without it being inspected. The new cop cars can tell if your car is inspected or not and mine is not. I do however have a shop across the street from me that can inspect the car but not do the exhaust.

Get a cheap hi flow cat and a glasspack with a turn down. You need a hangar or it will drag. It will sound like a farm truck for a while, but should pass inspections

Re: Temporary exhaust setup question?
I dunno of I can use a stock hanger because the one I saw was too far back but I'll take another look. What about the cut AIR tube thats hanging next to the y-pipe...any issue with that ya think?
Re: Temporary exhaust setup question?
Use the cheapest hanger you can find
Most aftermarket cats have an AIR tube. Hook it into that. If it doesnt have the port, weld a tube onto it and attach it

Re: Temporary exhaust setup question?
Why not have it towed to the shop? Seems like it would be less of a hassle than installing a temporary exhaust...

Re: Temporary exhaust setup question?
I'm having the shop that's putting my new exhaust on also removing the AIR setup and didn't want them screwing me on the inspection. Also I've been screwed on tie rods the last few years with my cars but I still replace them. I know their good on the Firebird cuz I just did the brakes and checked but if the shop says I need new ones I can't drive the car back home to fix 'em if it was towed there unless I pay to tow it twice.
