Installed my headers, now my O2 sensor is left hanging

Just installed my Hedman headers, part # 68476. They went in rather easy, i got them bolted in when i noticed that i didn't have a O2 bong on the driver side header. Now im going to need to order a O2 bong to have welded in so while im waiting my O2 sensor is pluged in and zip tied out of the way but not able to sniff any exhaust.

Is this going to hurt my motor? Could it run ultra lean and burn up? Thanks.

i installed the same headers . i assume you have their Y pipe # 17478 . i installed an 02 bung in the Y pipe . ck. for fitment , mine is close to the oil filter . have not had a problem . as for running it may signal a lean condition . you may run rich , i'm not that savvy on the ECM . good luck .

Yep, got the same Y pipe, ill see if i can get the O2 sensor to reach to the Y pipe, If i can that would be alot easier to do, thanks for the heads up. I do have a AF ratio gauge and it reads " STOICH " even though the O2 sensor can't sniff the exhaust so i have no idea what kind of mixture is truly happening. I hope it will run on the rich side. Rich right now in my mind equals safe.

I know hedman does however I have the ball and socket collector where the extension looked like to be for the other design. If i can get my O2 harness to reach to the Y pipe ill install it there. Im going to upgrade to the heated 3 wire O2 sensor later this month so i don't think that having the O2 sensor further away from the collector is going to matter much....not like it's much of a difference anyways, just a couple of inches.

Re: Installed my headers, now my O2 sensor is left hanging

update,

I was able to slacken up the O2 sensor harness enough to get the O2 sensor into a position to bolt up to the Y-pipe just after the header collector. I drilled a hole in the Y-pipe just big enough so i could wiggle the O2 sensor in and have it fit securely enough as to not fall out. It will do until tuesday, I should have my O2 bong then.

At least this way i know my O2 is able to sniff the exhaust, it should make things work a little better. Thanks again for everyone's input!

i know you already are taking care of the issue but for informational purposes it would run rich, too much clean air, not enough fuel residue if you will.

Re: Installed my headers, now my O2 sensor is left hanging

Does anyone have pictures of the location you picked on your headers or y-pipe?

I finally got my bung installed in the header thanks to Henry's Muffler shop in Raleigh. Didn't like the location in the y-pipe, but that is just my opinion. Still getting an error for the O2 sensor so going to try it with a ground wire, just until I order a 3-wire O2 sensor with pigtall.

Added the ground wire, connected to the ground stud on the back of the head and ran it down into the O2 sensor, just put the wire in between the bung and O2 washer. This did eliminate my code 13 in tuner pro but now my BLM is lower like 108 and it yellow in tuner pro. Guess I need to learn more about BLM and tuner pro.
