Running true duals on '86 350

Hi,
I am new to this forum.
As you have probably already noticed, I am a Mustang guy.
The reason I joined is because I am in charge of pretty much all work being done on my brother's 1986 IROC Camaro. We are nearing the half way point of a Carbureted 350 swap, and exhasut is one big thing we do not have figured out yet.
I've been looking through some pictures and threads on here of what some of you have run, and there are some nice looking setups. One that I really like is InfernalVortex's setup.
I am thinking of going with the same basic thing with full length headers, a crossover under the trans, and probably glass packs after the croosover, and then dumping before the rear axle.
My questions:
Which headers have people used? I am looking at Hedman 68460 headers.
Has anyone run glass packs and dumped it under the car? How loud is it and does it sound good?
Once it's at the axle on both sides, is there plenty of room to run it over the axle?
All input is appreciated.
Thanks.

i have glass packs on mine with hedman headers. my motor is a 1970 lt1 350. they are loud especially when you get on it they scream. mine are dumped right at the rear axel. . only down side is unless you know someone with a garage the car wont pass a legal inspection with glasspacks..

Fortunately I live in Michigan where inspections are not an issue.

Do you get a lot of interior noise or an obnoxiously loud droning on the highway?

i had a custom 2 1/2 true dual set up done ,over axle dumping out back at each corner. love it,guy was great. couple of highlights
* short headers(but full length wont change exhaust set up much
*crossover under trans but 3" pipe would be too tight to tuck it up behide crossmember and would otherwise hang down too low
*x pipe installed in place of cat
*2 1/2" dual will fit thru pahard mount with plenty of room. 3" would be real tight and may need new bar
* i have small flowmaster mufflers out back, kinda low, wish it was quieter but theyr small so they can be tuck up to where you cant see the exhaust out back. bigger mufflers would fit but will show.

anthony714: Do you have yours running down one side where the sock exhaust runs?
That's another issue I would like to address. I found a kit that would run it together down one side, but the car is really going to need subframe connectors. I know you can get subframe connectors to work around the stock exhaust, but then there are ones that are triangulated toward the front.
Are those stronger? and if so, with the exhaust run down the middle of the car can't I use any subframe connector I want?

Re: Running true duals on '86 350

yes, mine runs pretty much like the stock one. problem witht he 3rd gens is theres no room underneath to do much with an exhaust unless you want to do it barney and let it drag on the ground. running them both down the middle wont work on a 3rd gen, again too tight,no room. the 4th gens kinda do it but the underside is a tad different and allows for it,kinda like how you see the 4th gens go back andcross oer behind the trans, 3rd gens cant do that. as for your subframe connectors you either have to work the exhaust around them or get different ones. mines follow the floor boards andare curved where the cat would be so the exhaust fit the subframes fine. if you truely want duals get your headers on,your subframe sin and bring it to a real exhaust shop for a custom job. it will cost 600-800 but it will be worth it. a midas or shop like that probably wont want to take on the job and you wont be happy with it. no disrespect to them, its just not their game. if you want pm me and i can set you up with the guy who did mine.

Re: Running true duals on '86 350

I guess I should open this up to more exhaust possibilities.
Ive looked at y pipe kits, but have had a hard time finding them in 3 inch or larger.
Does anybody have links to components to put together a system for a 380ish hp/425ish ft-lb 350? We are trying to keep the price down as much as possible.
I would really like to do true duals, but if I can find a good one, a single intermediate pipe with duals out the back would be fine.
One thing to keep in mind is the car is getting subframe connectors.
The current plan is Hedman headers, reduce to 2.25", a crossover under the trans immediately followed by mufflers(undetermined) and dumps, but opinions on other setups are appreciated since I know the current plan will limit ground clearance
