help me out!
help me out!
Look, i am 17 years old and have a 1986 Z28 camaro with the 305 V-8 motor. I am on a budget but am looking for a good and loud exhaust system. I know i need to get it replaced and i know i need a new cat, so i guess just does anyone on here know of a good exhaust system that gets decent flow/power and a damn good sound (pretty loud), for a decent price?
Also i am a good builder/body fabricator type of guy, so i am not at all opposed to building my own setup. Making some glass pack type mufflers. So if you know how to build your own setup, and it sounds good, i would love some information on it!
thanks-Collin

i would strongly disagre with glaspacks... im sorry.
i feel it would give us all a bad rep.and they tend to have a slapping, anoying ******* sound.
if you have a little money i would do what i did.

converter shipped to my door 78.97
255.90 for the headers and muffler free shipping from the other place.
you could do no headers and save 169 but then no free shipping from byunspeed

Re: help me out!
i did not have a cat and i had a flowmaster(HAD totaled the car and currently working on a 4inch for my new motor)
i had copliments on the setup all the time!!! sounded great! sometimes i didnt think it was that loud but then my friends said it was great. the hooker muffler i belive(have one on my tahoe) not too loud inside which was very good for trips but nice and loud outside. if i were you i would get the hooker muffler. recently im anti flowmaster lol. everyone has them.

sometimes it does not sound that loud INSIDE but outside its compleatly different.
i was 17 not too long ago and i know exactly what you want but i really think if you did something like this, you would be very happy with it in the long run, and it can support several mods.

Re: help me out!
do you have/ need the A.I.R. sytem on your car? those headers you wont be able to use it.
for inspections do they sniff test it? for smog? then you might need it

Re: help me out!
Im actually not sure what that is? I personally am against flowmaster just due to the harsh things people have said about them, i have stock everything right now and wasnt originally planning on replacing the headers. Would i need to?

Re: help me out!

Re: help me out!
if your exhaust manifold is like that if you went with headers then you need to get rid of that system can be a little time consuming

Re: help me out!
You can get headers with the AIR tubes, so it all stays emissions legal. Hooker makes a set that comes with a ypipe, but they're almost $500.

Re: help me out!
trust me loud gets annoying really fast and whatever you get that is loud on a 305 is going be really annoying sounding and i would think very raspy. do your self a favor and get an tsp rumbler system from texas speed. i belive its only somewhere around 220 and sounds similar to the magnaflow system so it'll be a nice deep sound on idle/cruisin rev but screamin at wot. also i suspect its pretty nice flowing. the tsp is the cheaper alternatve to the magnaflow system and if you are looking for stainless steel, bad azz 3.5 in tips, free shipping, still great price, and proven power numbers of 18hp/15tq, you can get this from bandit exhuast. also a magnaflow cat from bandit exhaust for 95 dollars will help you out. good luck.
Re: help me out!
I dont really want it to be loud, but a good sound thats noticable. I think i am going to keep my headers and just replace the pipes muffler and cat.

Re: help me out!
then i would say get the hooker cat back you could afford. But atone for the ls1 cars i believe they fit same but bigger piping. If that is a little steep then i would buy the hooker 3 inch crossflow by its self and fit it in with your own pipe.
To be honest i have never heard the crossflow on our cars however, the hooker that is on my tahoe was on a ls1 and sounded great so i can only imagine
how the one madefor our carssound. The thing about hooker iso then have something unique. Not cookie cutter
