Headers with stock exhaust?

I'm sure this has been asked several times but I am wondering if there are any headers that will bolt right up with the stock exhaust on my 1987 Camaro with a 350 tpi. I am more or less broke right now as I am trying to pay for school but would like to clean up my engine bay. I would like some ceramic coated headers that would be fairly inexpensive and right now am not looking to put on a full new exhaust. What are your suggestions?
Thanks,
Ben

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

No, there aren't any headers that bolt to the stock exhaust pipes. However, the Hooker 2055HKR with their y-pipe will fit into your system at the cat inlet. Arguably the best off-the-self headers and y-pipe available.

There simply aren't any inexpensive headers out there for our cars that are worth a hoot. You can get somewhat low-cost headers-only, but by the time you modify your stock y-pipe (which is a poor piece in its own right) to fit them, you'll have more invested than you would just getting the Hookers.

I agree with the y pipes. Also Edelbrock makes some too with a y-pipe. They use donut gaskets though, which I had continous problems with them burning (rich condition) and leaking.

Here's a quick picture to show how the aftermarket shorties hook up to your factory y-pipe. Basically measure, cut, and weld in the new y pipe extensions. It's a dual CAT car but you get the idea.

Thank you, what about headers without the emissions on there, I am looking to remove all of that as well.

Re: Headers with stock exhaust?

Depending on the State it may or may not be a good idea. Some states allow you to not run emissions if you drive a limited amount of miles. Others require testing and fines if your'e catch without them.

You can purchase headers without AIR provisions (those are the pipes off the headers in the pic). If you do that I'd recommend removing the CATs and replacing them with pipes or gutting them along with capping off or removing all those AIR lines off them. The ones in my pics were gutted and put back together to pass visual inspections after they clogged and required replacement.
