custom built y pipe vs modded stock pipe

ok, so i got a pair of edelbrock sort tube headers from thsi guy. i installed them. i know theyre supposed to come with their own y pipe, which i don't have. btw, i welded short peices of pipe that fits around the outside of regular 2.5" (about 2 inches long) on each header, so i would be able to just slip a new tube right in and clamp it.

i WANTED to have my freidn bend a y pipe for me out of 2.5 inch pipe, but that would have to be done about 1/2 hour away from the car, and i figure if my measurements and stuff aren't right, ill have ot keep taking it back to have modifications done. the path the pipes have to go from the headers is moderatley intricate. so,

i was thinking about either taking the car into an exhaust shop and have them put in a custom y pipe to the cat, or modifying the original to fit the new headers. anyone know the cost of this? any comments, help, suggestions, or anythig are appriciated. just ylooking to get some other opinions on this.

ps, after i pass the e check, i plan on replacing the cat with a cutout anyways. its a high flow cat, but i really like the idea of an electronic cutout haha.

thanks!

Modding the original will only make the fact that you installed headers pointless. THe stock y-pipe is the most restrictive part of a 3rd gen's exhaust system. Maybe you can modify it just so you can get the car to a shop to have a custom y welded, but I would just toss the stock Y in the trash.

I agree stock y pipe is made cheaply and not designed for maximum flow. The bends are krinkle press style.
