Removing the Stock Exhaust??
Removing the Stock Exhaust??
Hey guys, I am currently in the process of removing my stock exhaust system on the 88 tranny and replacing it with the dynomax sys. After removing the y-pipe and cat as well as unhitching the muffler, I noticed that the long 3' pipe connecting to the cat/ y-pipe loops over the rear axle and down to the muffler, as one big ol' piece. How would I go about removing this section of the exhaust other than lying on my back and cutting it with a saw for an hour, which Ive almost all but certain have come down to doing. Is there an easier way? All you guys with aftermarket exhausts, how do you go about it?? I really appreciate it, Im not tryna spend a day on my sun-burnt back hacking at this sonnovabitch

just cut it. Save you headaches. Unless you want to drop the differential.

2 choices......
Cut it or.....You can jack the car up as high as possible on STEADY jackstands. Unbolt the tops of the shocks & swing the whole rear own down, then you can pull the exhaust in one piece, from the cat backwards.
That is a very simplified explanation. Beyond that, it is just the details & how-to's.
But if you have already started cutting? Just finish cutting. Pulling it in 1-piece is only in a case for saving it.

Stephen covered it. I like to use the sawzall for this. If you don't have one, now would be a great time to invest in one.
