exhaust feed back from the cat

i have an 82 trans am and there is a feedback line or pip that leads from the catalic back to the intake or in that general direction to save gas milages. basicly what it does is nothing to good for the car so what i want to do is take the whole thing out and let the engine breath better. is it illegal to take an existing emissions part off of a car or no. also if i do ake it off how badly will the mileage go down. how much extra power ight i get out of it? thanks

Exhaust back to engine emission

i do not know the tecnical name for this but i have an 82 trans am and the one emission on my car takes the exhaust from the cat and "recycles" some of the older fumes back to the intake or engine somewere, havent had time to look and play around with that yet, i tried to look into if its illegal to take them off or not but i dont have a whole lot of free time

Re: Exhaust back to engine emission

are you sure you are not talking about the AIR system because theirs a line running the air pump to the cat, thats the only line i know of running to the cat, if you look at the attatchment(stolen from one of ShiftyCapone's previous post) the converter connectin is the line running to that cat is that the emssions piece you are talking about

Re: exhaust feed back from the cat

Actually its an air feed line and it pumps air from the air pump to the catalytic converter to help it do its job better of removing harmful components from the engine's exhaust.

Yes it is highly illegal and a violation of federal law to remove ANY emissions device from a street-vehicle in the United States, even if your state or city does not do any emissions inspections.

That part does not affect horsepower or gas mileage, since it pumps air into the exhaust AFTER the engine is done with it.

Edit: I merged your two posts as they are about the same thing.
