driver's header touching brake line. Will this "fix" work?
My friend and I were installing the Hedman headers on my '83 T/A lastnight and noticed that one of the primaries was touching the brake line that coils and comes out of the front of the master cylinder. I didn't wanna bend it, scared of kinking it, so I went out to Orielly Auto Parts and got some DEI "Cool Tape" and says it insulates up to 1500 degrees, and I don't think header temps get that high unless the car absolutely runs like crap.

I wrapped it around the area with about 3 passes, so I'm guessing it should be okay. I can try to bend it a little bit out of the way, so it's not touching the header still, but I'm just afraid of kinking the pipe...then I'm SOL. Think this tape will work? I've heard header temps usually don't get up in the 4-number digits, but I could be wrong.

I'd strongly advise trying something so that there is no contact between the two. The direct contact will transmit a lot more heat than if there was even a half inch of seperation. For example if you hold your hand a little bit above a red hot stove burner its hot but still tolerable, but you can probably guess what happens if you lay your hand down on the burner...something I did when I was 3 or 4 years old
Also the tape is much more effective at "reflecting" the heat and not necessarily insulating from it

I simply grabbed mine and pulled it away. No problems.

besides, your brake line isnt rusty, so you should be able to bend it no problem, with that engine flexing too, i would advise moving the line away from header. On my 2.8 with headers, the brake line touched, and i soon noticed some smoke from under the hood and a loss of brakes. the header melted the brake line. ive noticed know with my 5.7 the headers are better at avoiding the lines. but you dont want to lose your brakes, another f-body sent to its grave!

Yep, just gently bend it out of the way.
