Long tube exhaust?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has figured out a way to run a good flowing exhaust (400+hp) with long tubes. I'm thinking of buying my old car back, but if I do, I have to be able to clear the speed bumps on base. There's no way that Strait 2.5" duals with magnaflows dumped before the axle are gonna clear. Anyone have thoughts or pictures? Maybe a y-pipe setup or a small diameter dual system run along the stock route?

Re: Long tube exhaust?

There is thread on TGO about true duals that follow the stock routing. I think it is Summit that sells the pipes.

Re: Long tube exhaust?

yeah but that setup is designed for the shorties, not longtubes. It's startin to look like I'm gonna have to just have a different straight dual setup built, somethin that tucks into the tunnel.... the collectors on the hedman LTs come too far back to run a y-pipe w/o having to go under the frame rails... and what's the point of that?

The collectors on any LTs come too far back to go anywhere but below the frame rails.

Re: Long tube exhaust?

well yeah I've figured that much out. Looks like I have some saving to do. I don't have the resources to fab my own stuff right now, so I'm looking into having a shop put a cleaner set of duals on it, something that tucks into the trans tunnel nicely...

Re: Long tube exhaust?

Why does it have to be dual?

Re: Long tube exhaust?

Power, sound.... Besides, I'm already between the frame rails. Why do a Y-pipe? If it's single, I need AT LEAST a 3", and that's only if I'm not goin up and over the axle. Dual 2.5" or even 2" dumped before the axle will give me a larger overall volume to work with, and less groud clearance issues. Oh single exhaust just sounds sloshy compared to duals-to me anyway.

Re: Long tube exhaust?

When I planed out my exhaust I went for the most ground clearance I could reasonably get with long tubes and a 4" catback out back, and this is with having a t-56 tranny in the car.

some pic's for ya

Re: Long tube exhaust?

Hmm... interesting. that's tucked up there really nice man, looks like some good work. Only thing that would make that hard for me is my stock crossmember.... I'd have to find a replacement or have one fabbed. Like the prop too, if it'll roll over a budweiser can it could most likely clear the speed bumps on base

GREAT EXHAUST. What Y pipe is that? What crossmember is that? and what torque arm is that. I have the mufflex cat back with 2210s and an automatic but your y pipe and crossmember kicks a lot of but. I have a ford 9 and 4' over the axle but mine is tight at the crossmember. allen.bray64@yahoo.com

Remember, he's got a manual... there's a huge difference in the amount of clearance you'll have with an automatic.
