difference

anyone know why the popular brand Camaro/Firebird headers stop at 1981? was there a frame change in 82 so med. tube headers won' fit? I ask because my shorty Hookers are shot and I was going to replace them with the ceramic coated ones from KMJ performance. The block huggers won't fit and the only other offering is the medium length in ceramic.

Re: difference

thats pretty obvious with a little research, or even looking at a 81 vs a 82, in 82 the ENTIRE CAR changed, f-bodies went from the 2rd gen to the 3rg gen, thats why the cutoff is there and things change. The cars are totally different and share NOTHING in common with each other aside from being a "f-body" and having a solid rear axle.

Hedman, Hooker, Dougs, edelbrock, lemons, ect all make long and/or short tube headers specifically for 82-92 cars.

Re: difference

I was merely asking if the frame changed ,as to the placement of the engine cradle so I could tell if a specific header from KMJ Performance would work. They imply the headers they sell only fit up to 1981 which was why I asked the question.Frame change should have been more specific for the question.

yes, the entire car changed, nothing is the same, including the "frame" 3rd gens dont even have a frame, or traditional subframe like the 1st and 2nd gens had.

the 2nd gen headers do not fit. With modification to the firewall and floor pans, they have been "made" to fit. After all that, you might as well spend the extra couple bux and get a header designed for the car you are putting it in.
