Y Pipe makes trans tunnel hot & idea on o2 sensor placement
Quick run down:
Long Tubes 2210 (coated)
3" Mufflex Y pipe (chopped/dinged/weld to fit around a Spohn TQ Arm)
4" exhaust (built by myself using cheap 4" pipe, some 90* bends, and cheap Hooker AirFlow straight through muffler)
The Y pipe seems to make the trans tunnel area hot. It's pretty close to the tunnel bracing area to get maximum ground clearance.
I thought about using exhaust heat wrap on that section of the Y Pipe to keep the heat off the Trans Pan and off the underbody. Would I experience metal fatigue if I did wrapped it? I'm hoping to lower some exhaust temps inside the car. The shifter actually gets hot to the touch after driving for 15-20 minutes.
I still haven't reinstalled the o2 sensor for the A/F ratio gauge due to not having a bung on the system yet. It's heated 3-wire type sensor. Would it still heat up and function correctly if I could put it in the merge cone section of the Y pipe? I thought that might be nice to see both banks, not just one.

Re: Y Pipe makes trans tunnel hot & idea on o2 sensor placement
if ur shifter is even getting that hot, i would move the pipe a little farther away. or at least but some wrap on just the top between the pipe and tranny. not around the whole exhaust maybe just that section could work.
